Bleeding ulcer blamed for Sununu's flu-like symptoms

CONCORD - Governor Sununu's flu-like symptoms were caused by a bleeding ulcer, tests taken at Portsmouth Regional Hospital confirmed late Friday.

Sununu had fallen ill after traveling to Kentucky where he went to observe how the state was handling a recent COVID surge that may be affecting New Hampshire already.

After a blood transfusion, he is doing much better, a statement from his office noted on Friday.

"He is extremely grateful to the staff at Portsmouth Regional Hospital for their outstanding care and to everyone who donates blood," chief of staff Jayne Millerick said in a statement. "As a blood donor himself he is happy he paid it forward and grateful to all who do the same."

A COVID test taken earlier this week showed him to be negative.
