ALFRED, Maine - A Berwick man has been indicted on rape and unlawful sexual contact charges against multiple victims, including minors, one under the age of 12.
The most serious charges against David A. Gagnon, 43, of 121 Long Swamp Road, include two Class A felonies, one for gross sex assault/compulsion and one for gross sex assault on a child under 12. Both are punishable by up to 30 years in state prison.
The other charges include sex abuse of a minor, multiple counts of unlawful sexual touching or sexual contact with minors, and one simple assault.
All of the alleged sex crimes occurred on April 10-11, according to the indictment, which was handed down on Aug. 7 and released on Thursday.
In addition Gagnon was indicted on charges of violating bail and violation of a protective order on April 29.
He was originally booked at York County Jail, but was transferred to Cumberland County Jail where he is being held on no bail, a York County Jail spokesman said today.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been presented to a grand jury to move forward to trial.
