SALEM - One person suffered life-threatening injuries on Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 93 south in Salem.
The single-vehicle accident occurred around 10:35 p.m. in the area of mile marker 1.4 in Salem.
When troopers arrive they found a vehicle that had left the road and was split in half after striking several trees.
The preliminary investigation, along with witness statements, indicated that a 2016 Lexus IS-300, driven by Fredi Lopez De Leon, 22, of Lawrence, Mass., had been traveling north at a high rate of speed when it left the road and traveled toward the tree line, according to a Dept. of Safety press release sent out today.
Crews from the Salem Fire Department also responded and extricated Lopez De Leon from the vehicle before rushing him to the Salem High School field complex, where he was taken by Medflight to Boston with life-threatening injuries.
A travel lane was closed for around two hours while the scene was processed.
