FARMINGTON - The driver of a vehicle that crossed a double yellow line and rammed head-on into a Farmington Police cruiser early New Year's Day has been identified as a Massachusetts man.
John Poirier Jr., 29, of Brockton, Mass., was driving a 2016 Honda Accord headed toward downtown Farmington on Main Street (Route 153) in the area of Cocheco Road a little after midnight when he crossed into the oncoming path of the cruiser which was headed toward Route 11.
Poirier was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, while the Farmington officer whose name has not been released was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Both suffered only minor injuries, according to Rochester Police, who are leading the investigation into the crash.
Rochester Police Public Information Officer Todd Pinkham said on Tuesday that the Strafford County Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with the investigation.
Poirier was charged with a aggravated DUI and reckless operation.
Since the collision involved a Farmington Police officer, the Farmington Police Department referred the case to the Rochester Police Department and the Strafford County Technical Accident Reconstruction Team for the investigation.
