A Barrington man is thought to have committed suicide on Tuesday after police set up a perimeter around his residence following his shooting at a local police officer responding to a welfare check.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m., when a Barrington Police Officer responded to 33 Cortland Way to check on the welfare of 58-year-old Daniel Peavey.
As the officer attempted to make contact with Peavey, he was met with gunfire from the inside the residence, prompting him pull back take cover and call for backup.
Personnel from several area police agencies responded, including, State Police-Troop A, the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit, and The Seacoast Emergency Response Team.
Following several hours of unsuccessfully attempts to contact Peavey a tactical unit entered the mobile home and found him dead.
A State Police press release noted there were no other subjects in the home and no officers discharged weapons during the incident.
Other law agencies on hand included Strafford and Rochester police, Barrington Fire and EMS and Strafford County Sheriff's Department.
