PORTLAND, Maine - A Barrington, N.H., couple who had been listed in serious condition after their motorcycle crashed in Acton on Saturday have been upgraded to satisfactory condition, according to a Maine Medical Center spokesman today.
The crash involved three of five motorcycles that were traveling together and occurred around 7 p.m. as they headed south on Route 109.
According to an initial investigation, the Strafford County Sheriff's Office said it appeared Jared Russell, 41, of Barrington, N.H., and his wife, Jennifer, 43, a passenger, were behind two other motorcycles, when Jared Russell appeared to reposition his motorcycle to be either abreast or in front of them, which led to the crash, causing three of the bikes to go down.
None of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets.
The Russells were both taken to Maine Medical Center with what were termed serious head injuries.
The other motorcyclists involved in the crash were Robert Welch, 41, of Exeter, N.H., who was riding his 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle with Brenda Clevesy, 47, of Haverhill, Mass. as a passenger; and Mark Driscoll, 56 of Hampton, N.H., who was riding his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle alone.
Welch and Clevesy were treated at the scene and released, while Driscoll refused treatment at the scene but later reported to seek medical treatment on his own.
