NASHUA - An Amherst woman was injured in a fiery single-car crash in Nashua.

The crash occurred on Friday around 3:55 p.m. on the F.E. Everett Turnpike North in the area of mile marker 2.6.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 silver Lincoln Aviator driven by Valerie Morelli, 67, of Amherst, exited the left side of the roadway where it struck an embankment and some trees before catching fire. A group of witnesses stopped at the scene and were able to successfully remove the injured operator from the vehicle, according to a press release.

Troopers determined that Morelli veered off the roadway due to a medical event. She was taken to a local hospital for injuries that were described as nonlife threatening.

Multiple northbound lanes were shut down after the accident resulting in significant traffic delays. Lane closures remained in place for about two and a half hours.

All aspects of this crash remain under investigation and anyone who witnessed the event is asked to contact Trooper Luan Sanches at (603)227-0114 or Luan.G.Sanches@dos.nh.gov.
