GREENLAND - The Attorney General's Office is investigating whether election law was skirted in Greenland when an anonymous mailer urging townspeople to vote to abolish voting machines was sent out just days before a Special Election.
Beginning on Wednesday, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office received multiple complaints regarding the mailer.
The mailer is political advertising, under New Hampshire law, as it refers to the sole issue on the ballot in this Special Election, which is whether Greenland should hand count ballots after its elections rather than use an electronic ballot counting device, a statement from the AG's office on Thursday said.
Under RSA 664:14, political advertising is required to be "signed" to identify if a group issued the mailer, however. an individual may not be subject to the same requirement, the AG's office noted.
This mailer in this case did not contain any information identifying who paid for or issued the mailer.
The Attorney General's Office is investigating this political advertising to ensure compliance with New Hampshire law.
Officials say it's likely the results of the investigation will not be known by Saturday.
