AG investigating Gilford officer-involved shooting

GILFORD - The Attorney Generals Office today is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred at a Gilford residence on Sunday.

Police got involved around 9:50 p.m. when they got a 911 call for a resident armed with a knife at 5 Varney Point Road.

Upon arrival officers encountered the armed resident inside the home, according to a press release from the AG's office sent today.

During the encounter, one officer discharged an electronic taser and a second officer discharged his weapon, the statement said.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday. No law enforcement officers were injured, and there is no threat to the public, police say.

Pursuant to protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews. The initial responding officers did have body cameras.

The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation. Additional information will not be released until after the autopsy is completed.
