MANCHESTER -- Adam Montgomery was found guilty in the murder of his five-year-old daughter Harmony on Thursday following a grueling and emotional two-week trial.
Although her body has still not been found, police and prosecutors say she was likely killed about two years before she was reported missing.
Montgomery, 34, has said all along he did not kill the child.
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu was quick to respond to the verdict, saying in a statement, "I am grateful to the judge, jury, and Department of Justice for delivering justice for Harmony. Adam Montgomery is a monster and deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison."
Attorney General John M. Formella urged Granite Staters to focus on the remembrance of a young girl with the sweetest smile.
"Today our thoughts are focused on the memory and legacy of Harmony Montgomery, a little girl who did not deserve the tragic fate that she suffered," Formella said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to Harmony's family and all those who knew and loved her, and we hope today brings them some closure and peace. This verdict is the result of the hard and excellent work of our trial team and the members of the Manchester Police Department. I thank them for their tireless efforts in this case. The Manchester community and all Granite Staters can be assured that we will continue to seek justice and protect the people of New Hampshire."
The jury also found Montgomery guilty of assaulting Harmony in 2019.
Police think Harmony Montgomery was killed sometime in December of 2019, though she wasn't reported missing for almost two years.
During trial Kayla Montgomery testified that the body was hidden in the trunk of a car, a cooler, a ceiling vent, and a workplace freezer before Adam Montgomery disposed of it.
