ROCHESTER - Once again on Monday, after more than a decade-long hiatus for the City of Rochester's summertime tennis program, the sound of schoolchildren learning the game of gentlemen could be heard on the courts behind the Community Center.
Rochester Rec and Arena Director Lauren Krans was instrumental in getting the program back on its feet, and said she hopes it's back to stay.
"We are excited to bring back the summer tradition of tennis lessons," Krans said on Monday. "There had been a lot of community inquiries about this program. Now that we were able to find an available, qualified, instructor, we're looking forward to seeing this program thrive and hopefully return as an annual staple program."
This summer's lessons, taught by Spaulding High boys tennis coach Griffin Leach, began on Monday and will run through next week.
Highlights of the program include teaching of essential tennis skills, including serving, rallying, and scoring.
The program is structured to build self-confidence while ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience for all, according to a recent release from the city. All necessary equipment is provided.
