A software glitch that grounded thousands of planes last month may have helped a Springvale, Maine, girl soar to new heights.
Madilynn Treasure, who turns 10 today, has always loved to sing and entertain, says Liz Costa, her mom.
But about a year ago Madilynn took it up a notch when she agreed to sing a couple of numbers with local band Island Mike & Friends and was a total hit.
"It was around that time that I thought to myself, 'We might be able to do this,'" Costa mused.
Her initial welcome into the local music scene turned into her playing a couple of songs with various bands most every weekend.
"We had a lot of busy Saturday nights," said Costa, who soon enrolled Madilynn into a singing program at Rochester Performing and Arts Center in Rochester, N.H.

After one of her lessons they went next door to Mitchell Hill Barbecue for dinner, and when they learned it was Open Mic night, well, there was only one thing to do: Get up on stage and sing with a band.
And she did, and they loved it.
And after securing her second tryout for America's Got Talent, co-writing a song with a Nashville record producer and wowing country music fans at some of Nashville's hottest entertainment venues, Madilynn is coming back to Mitchell Hill Barbecue this Wednesday to play what should be a very memorable Open Mic.
But let's get back to the software glitch that grounded planes, but may have put Madilynn on a flight path to stardom.
"Well, we wanted to get a music producer to record the first song she wrote, "Girls can like Blue, and we found one in Nashville,' Costa recalls. "But the airlines went down, so we had to drive to Nashville. It was 20 hours."
After cutting the record they had planned to fly back the next day, but since they had driven they decided to stay a few days and see if they could get Madilynn a chance to sing at some country nightclubs on Nashville's famed Broadway.
And that's where the "Nashville Dream" began.
Madilynn played at the Bluebird Cafe, the pre-eminent spot for country music's rising stars and superstars.
She also co-wrote "Nashville Dream" with the music producer who recorded her song "Girls Can Like Blue."
"They wrote it in two hours," Costa said.
The next night she sang "Nashville Dream" at the JW Marriott Cabana Club's rooftop lounge.
"She killed it," Costa said. "They did 'Nashville Dream,' and the crowd went nuts!"
Nashville-based music producer Ryan Smith, who co-wrote "Nashville Dream" with Madilynn, says she's talented beyond her years.
"Madi has so much talent, not just for a young girl, but for any age," he told The Rochester Voice. "She's a gifted singer/songwriter and navigated her first time in a recording studio like a pro. She is definitely going places, and I'm honored to work with her. I foresee her dreams becoming a reality!"
Madilynn recently had her online tryout for "America's Got Talent,"
and Costa said they'll know within a couple of months if she made it through. If she does they'll get to go to Los Angeles to compete in this season's AGT.
The studio version of "Nashville Dream" will be released at noon on Aug. 21 on many online music platforms,
