A 'darkly, comedic,' Hamlet portends well for ROH

ROCHESTER - Director Tim Robinson crafts a relevant, highly engaging tale of Shakespeare's most powerful tragedy.

Robinson's Hamlet embodies the spirit of cultural icon James Dean, a troubled teen struggling with his own place in the world. The production begins its run at the Rochester Opera House later this month and is sponsored by The Lebanon Voice, C & K Printing of Rochester and Rotary International.

Played on a stark, impressionistic stage, conceived by Set Designer Jerard-James Craven, the play embodies the most powerful elements of the revered tale, framed with relevancy for a 21st Century audience.

Returning to the Opera House stage, following their critically acclaimed performances in last season's Romeo and Juliet, Kelly Litt as Hamlet and Olivia Dodd as Ophelia lend legitimacy to their characters' youth-driven angst and are sure to connect with family audiences.

The cast also includes veteran Seacoast performers Lesley Hamblin as Gertrude, Jim Burkholder as Claudius, Adam McDougall as Polonius, Jerard-James Craven as Laertes and Michael Stailey as Horatio.

Hamlet will run from March 27-30 with Arts and Education performances March 25-27.
