FARMINGTON, Maine - A 13- and 14-year-old were charged with arson, burglary, theft and criminal mischief on Thursday following a fire and theft of a firearm from a Town Farm Road residenc.
Police responded to a call for a burglary at 432 Town Farm Road in Farmington, where it appeared that a couple of fires had been started inside the residence, according to a Dept. of Safety press release sent later in the day. It was also determined that a firearm had been taken from the residence.
Officers determined that a vacant second property next to the victim's residence had been broken into as well. The missing firearm and some ammunition were located inside.
Because of the fire damage to the initial property, the Fire Marshal's office was contacted. After a joint investigators with police it was established that the two teens were responsible. They were charged with arson, burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
Damage to the initial property is estimated to be around $2,000.
Safety officials announced that the juveniles were not taken into custody.
